When I was walking home from campus today I passed a fellow with a kiddie on his back in the patio of Starbucks. He was looking down at a bunch of scattered newspapers on a table, and as I passed him I realized that the sleeves of his shirt were filthy, and his face looked awfully weathered. I was a little perplexed; if I had seen him without the kiddie, I would have assumed that he was homeless, but with the kiddie and the fancy carrying-pack taken into account, it just seemed unlikely. Maybe he had kidnapped the kiddie, but the kiddie was sitting in the carrying-pack very patiently and placidly, and kidnapping isn't the kind of thing homeless people do. Sit on the street, beg, and yell at you (in Berkeley) or say "God bless you anyway (in Hyde Park) or mock you when you refuse to give them anything (on 57th St. by the Medici), yes, but kidnap, no. Then as I was walking away I realized that part of the kiddie's placid patience involved swinging his legs with their little boots, and that it had rained earlier today, and the filth was simply a result of the dirty boots rubbing the fellow's sleeve. Suddenly the scenario changed from some homeless man kidnapping a kiddie to simply a guy with a weathered face who is also a father. Boring.

It's blowing like crazy outside, and the sky keeps getting darker and darker. The weather report promised thunderstorms, and I can't wait! It's been a while since I've had a good thunderstorm, largely because I think I slept through the last batch.

Is anyone else getting sick of the NYTimes online's United ads that separate you from the article you just clicked on? Because I am! It's not even the phenomenon of the ad-interference that bothers me; it's simply that particular ad, which I'm really sick of.

Senioritis is clawing me with all four paws.

Six days 'til Daniel comes!
