The New York Times Book Review
Oct. 9th, 2006 05:48 pmAlways fun to read, especially fun when it pans a book, and even more fun when the author of the panned book responds, "I was trying to get at some deeper points about acting, film, power, and so on--but alas, I fell short of Levi's [reviewer's] snob standards. So let me share with your weary readers (the Book Review is so often caught between spite and boredom) that The San Francisco Chronicle has just called "Nicole Kidman" "a book that has guts and brains." The Chronicle, as I have mentioned before, is a truly dreadful paper. Do not quote it in your defense against the New York Times.
However, I nevertheless did find proof today that the NYTimes book review can err. Specifically, it said that "How to Steal a Million" was a project better left unmade. Balderdash! The movie is lovely, charming, and all kinds of cute. Everyone go rent it and watch it today.
