I hate syntax!
Oct. 24th, 2005 10:38 pmI hate everything about it. I hate the endless acronyms--NPIs, PSRs, LFG, SCO, WCO (Negative-Polarity Items, Phrase-Structure Rules, Lexical-Functional Grammar, Strong Crossover, Weak Crossover), I hate the fact that no matter how carefully I took notes and thought I understood in class, I still don't get it now. I hate Jason Merchant's smug, good-looking, well-dressed syntactician look (real linguists--like, phonologists--are scruffy. Unless they're Alan Yu) and the way he makes it seem so simple, when in reality it's absurd. I hate Asymmetries and not knowing what an unnacusative is, and not understanding what an unergative is. I hate that I have a midterm tomorrow. I hate that I've only been studying for half an hour.
I hate that Darden stood me up today.
I hate that Daniel's not here.
I hate when my roommates are moody.
I actually am enjoying the rain, though.
