Oh, yes, I'm using a model book. Interestingly enough, I happened to take pictures of my two favorite books, before deciding that people wouldn't care about it, and leaving it out of this entry. (Silly me!) I use the models in David Harris's book mainly, but Marc Drogin's has one of the best discussions of the development and spread of various letter forms that I've ever read. The squiggles on the capitals in the Canterbury tales page, however, I just made up. I'm still figuring out how I like those to look.
My favorite letter depends on the script. In Bastard Secretary, I like "h" and "d" quite a lot. I haven't written Batarde enough recently to remember what I like there. In Gothic textura quadrata, everything is pretty much made the same way, so individual letters don't stand out so much. I do like playing with the ligatures, though. There are two "ae" combinations in the bottom row of that page. As for Insular Minuscule, I like the "r" the best. (It's unrecognizable to modern eyes. The last letter of the page is an "r".)
